Arctic Bloom™ is the product of 25+ years of research conducted by Jason on client properties around the country. We have accumulated additional research from our customers in all regions of the U.S. to make huge improvements that equate to cost savings by throwing out "low success" seeds that simply "fluff" up the bag. NOTE FOR 2024 - While we support the use of raw and untreated seeds, we will use coated seeds with organic microbial seed treatment packages and beneficial nitrogen-fixing Rhizobium bacteria and other water absorbing technologies when we believe it will improve stand establishment. All of our products are OMRI-Approved.
By sourcing raw, untreated seeds (or OMRI-Approved coated seeds meant to enhance stand quality) for Arctic Bloom™, we've maintained competitive pricing with 35% more seed in the bag! By removing 7 pounds of seed coating material, we're able to fill the bag with more seed. More seed equates to a better stand!
- Frost seed rate = 10 lbs./acre
- Raw, untreated seeds = 35% more seed in each bag!
-
IF coated seed is used higher stand resiliency produces more plants
- Sourced from American farmers
- Elite, cold-tolerant clovers
- Fresh inoculant pouch included
- FREE SHIPPING
While Arctic Bloom™ has changed slightly over the years, Jason's relentless focus on producing the highest quality frost seeding blend has remained unchanged. In other words, Jason is looking for the highest return on investment and the wisest use of your money when frost seeding. We want you to be thrilled with the quality of your stand because company growth by word of mouth has been our mission from day one.
EXCITED TO LEARN MORE FROM OUR EXPERIENCE AND RESEARCH? READ ON!
For more than 20 years, industry insiders and seed salesmen insisted that we only sell treated seeds to our customers. It turns out, this was oftentimes because treated seeds were available in greater supply than untreated seeds, NOT because treated seeds result in a better stand!
Seeds that have been treated are blue, pink, green, red or some other color. The coloring that you are looking at is the seed treatment and it typically adds up to 33%-35% of the total bag weight. In other words, a 20 lb. bag of seed that contains 35% seed coating only has 13 lbs. of actual seed in the bag! Perhaps THIS is why your stands don't come out like you intended and you end up with a significant amount of undesirable weeds in your plot. You're paying for filler in the form of seed coatings made from clay and various man-made, laboratory-produced chemicals. A grower must ask: can I justify purchasing a 20 lb. bag of seed that only has 13 lbs. of seed in it?
Seed coatings and treatments typically contain Rhizobium bacteria for nitrogen fixation, among other products. We are providing a pouch of fresh inoculant with every bag of seed to ensure that your stand produces maximum nodulation and nitrogen fixation. Simply sprinkle your inoculant on your seed at the time of planting and get your seed in the ground.
While we do believe that there may be a time and place for some of the newer biological seed treatments, the frost seeding products that we come across when sourcing seeds are far too often treated with harsh fungicides and insecticides that we do not support in functional agricultural systems. Exactly what all is included inside a seed treatment is often out of your control. This harsh chemistry is non-selective and leads to the depletion of the fungal dominant soils that we are working diligently to produce. Furthermore, insecticides that are often contained in seed treatments kill non-target and beneficial insects that our regenerative blends, like Pollinator Preserve™, are seeking to attract. A healthy population of beneficial insects keep the "pest" insects at check. By killing your beneficial, predatory insects, your dysfunctional system becomes dependent on more applications of expensive pesticides. With costs rising, we'd rather work towards lowering input costs.
Why do so many wildlife seed companies insist that their seed coatings enhance the quality of your forage stands? Many times they are justifying the superiority of the ONLY seed that they have readily available them. Many of these companies are purchasing bulk seed quantities that are sold to the masses and the masses have been convinced that they need seed treatments in order to produce quality stands. As a result, the supply of raw, untreated seeds is low. Drop-Tine has contracted with U.S. growers to produce the very best untreated seeds so we can maintain a robust supply chain that finds its way to your property.
Seed treatment facilities have been known to damage seeds during the treating process, leading to an unexpected shortage of seed and last minute supply chain issues. Based on this possibility and the aforementioned downfalls of planting treated seeds, we just don't see the ROI.
After intentionally observing our results with treated vs. untreated seeds, we were finally convinced during the 2021 growing season that raw, untreated seeds grown by our professional American farmers, sold with fresh inoculant on the side, is the way to go. You can apply your inoculant at the time of planting to guarantee that more LIVE Rhizobium find their way to your seeds.
We've included the top 3 producing clovers from frost seeding trials across the country. Many clover frost seeding trials report 50-70% success rate when seeded properly. We have documented consistent 75-80% success rates with this blend (and closely related blends). These 3 selections were sourced for their cold tolerance, nutritive values, resistance to grazing, stolon densities, heat tolerance (summer), suitability for wide range is Soil pH, palatability, crude protein and nitrogen fixation.
We can assure you that these 3 elite clovers are exactly what we use on our farms and the blend is the same offering that Drop-Tine Wildlife Consulting clients use to frost seed. Arctic Bloom™ can be planted conventionally as well if you miss the frost seeding window.
The best time to frost seed is early in the morning into crackling, honeycombed soil. Missed the frost seeding window? Mother nature didn’t offer many great frost seeding mornings? Your schedule didn’t allow for frost seeding? No worries, just plant Arctic Bloom™ like any other clover plot!
