Mother nature does not approve of naked soils and we don’t either. When we disturb the soil with large equipment, such as when we create logging roads through woodland habitats, exposed topsoil experiences wind and water erosion. Drop-Tine Logging Road Mix (LRM) was designed for clients who wanted to cover logging roads, log landings, woodland plots and access roads that traverse a property. We’ve always been a fan of designing a perennial clover base for soil holding capacity and attraction to wildlife with an added component that can take the abuse of foot and ATV traffic. LRM contains the fastest growing plants available to hold soil in place and begin the reclamation process following site disturbances. The clovers ability to stolon and spread will benefit both soils and wildlife long term. We’ve incorporated the same aggressive clover variety and high sugar grasses that we incorporate into our management programs that require logging road maintenance and attraction. Recommended planting rate is 25 lbs. per acre. Bags are 25 lbs.

Purchased two bags of logging road mix to seed the access road thru our property after performing a timber harvest in 2021. There was enough seed to cover nearly 1/4 mile of two track. After preparing the soil (just loosening the surface, no amending or fertilizing), the seed was distributed and lightly raked into the soil, and nature was left to take its course. Within a few weeks, the growth was noticeable, and by the end of the first year, the seed was well established. By the end of the second year, we have a lush green ground cover. I encountered grouse with chicks feeding within the two track last summer, and have several deer that seem to enjoy grazing there as well. The results are exactly what I was seeking. Highly recommend the logging road mix.
